Ethiopian Gathering
Saturday we had friends over. One set of friends were adoptive families that have adopted or are adopting from Ethiopia, and the other set of friends were members of Maranatha Evangelical Ethiopian Church. It was wonderful to bring the two communities together and visit for the afternoon. I made spaghetti and the Ethiopian people brought injera and all the fixings to go with it. It was fantastic, splendid, wonderful, awesome, all those words that can describe when things just can't get any better. The Ethiopian men & women loved up on the kids that have been brought here from their homeland by loving families, and the kids in turn felt loved by their people. How great is that?! Addis & Abi Mulu loved showing their home and their bedroom to their friends and loved the idea that they came to THEIR house. It was a great afternoon and I even got some injera instructions out of it. If I go Friday to the church "Momma" is going to give me an injera starter. So far both attempts at making injera have failed. Oh well. That's what stores are for, right?

Are you ready for this?
I took the girls for a haircut and the stylist told me they should have their hair relaxed and just a little trim. This is the results.

Our 28th wedding anniversary
August 2007
August 2007
Today is our 28th wedding anniversary. We were married in the Stardust Chapel here in San Diego. We were married by a woman. (GASP!) We were not Christians then and so far from where God wanted us. I was able to find two recent pics, and when and if I get time I might post older photos.
Movie Night
Steve took Addis, Mulu & Jesse to the Ethiopian church while James, John, Joel & I stayed home with the Anna & Adah. We put A&A to bed and James made popcorn on the stove. The boys had a sheet laid out on the floor for us to sit on. We had Hot Tamales, 3 Muskateers, Honey Buns, popcorn, drinks and licorice. We pigged out while we watched The Sandlot. I love that movie, but while watching it I remembered why we threw it away the first time. I told the boys, "You may not watch this movie with your friends! I don't want any moms calling me!" I also didn't know that this movie was why we started saying, "You're killin' me, Smalls!" We've been saying it and I absolutely did not remember that it came from The Sandlot. It's a boy movie through and through.
