Simple Language For Adoptive Families: Amharic

I ordered this little booklet with a CD a week or so ago. It seemed kind of pricey at $30, but anything that helps us communicate with the girls is worth it.

The opening verse on the title page: God sets the lonely in families. Psalm 68:6

In the introduction Amy Kendall states: This book was written with the great hope of making that transition (explained in previous paragraphs) a bit easier for the new child in your family. Hopefully these words and phrases in your childn's native language will give you a way to explain things to help ease their fears, keep them safe, and most importantly, to let them know how very much you love them.

Some of the phrases:

We love you so much! Girl: Beht-AHM ehn-wuh-dih-SHAH-lehn!
Are you hungry? Girl: Rah-BESH?
Are you tired? Girl: Deh-keh-MESH?
Are you OK? Girl: Teh-SHEH-lesh?

There are so many more and we hd a good time with me trying to pronounce them and the girls trying to figure out what I was saying. They said, "Mommy-Ethiopia!" Daddy said, "No! Mommy-America! :-)

We have yet to listen to the CD, but we are very thankful we have this valuable resource!
